PrimeiroPay is an international payment service provider that delivers a premium payment experience for your international customers without opening local entities.
When our founders decided to expand to Latin America as merchants, they found it nearly impossible to find customer-centric payment providers. They struggled to accept cross-border payments in local currencies. In the end, they realised they needed to build their solution. PrimeiroPay is the result – a solution designed to expand proximity, bringing international businesses closer to customers in emerging markets.

Tim Werner founds PrimeiroPay with a single goal in mind – to offer an internet payment service provider that allows international companies to accept cross-border payments in Brazil. He begins talking with local banks, consumers and technology companies to build the legal and technical foundations of PrimeiroPay. He opens the company’s headquarter in Luxembourg.
In partnership with global PSP Adyen, PrimeiroPay begins offering international payment solutions in local currencies to selected customers in Brazil. By simplifying the bureaucracy surrounding the payment process, the company starts to gain market traction.
As an established business with multiple multinational clients, PrimeiroPay begins expanding its operations into other Latin American markets. The decision comes at the request of customers who wanted to explore the other major developing market: Mexico.
The same process of in-depth market and legal research the company did in Brazil starts in Mexico. A Country Manager with years of experience in the banking industry is hired to build a local team. For existing clients to start receiving payments in Mexico is just a turn-key process: the same contract, the same API, the same back office, no hassle.
Mexico gains huge momentum. PrimeiroPay starts the process of obtaining a PSD2 license, confirming our compliance with the highest standards in the payment industry. The roadmap for new countries is defined: Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Chile are next.
In a single year, the PrimeiroPay team doubles in size, and a new office is launched in Cyprus to house our compliance division. The company is awarded a Global Finance Corporate FX Award in the Best Collaboration with Banks and Suppliers category, alongside our banking partner Citi.
We continue to expand into new emerging markets. Our new website is launched to reflect the strength of our brand and services. Our team is working diligently to support our clients navigate difficult times.
At PrimeiroPay, we believe in partnership, connection, and transparency, with both our colleagues and our clients. We like to do things a little differently. We are efficient, reliable and experienced. And we are convinced that cross-border payments don’t need to be complicated.
